About Lisa Jane
I’m Lisa — a British-born artist and designer now based in Ohio, with over 30 years of experience in visual communication. My background in signwriting, typography, illustration, and design education shapes the way I create art today.
In 2024, after losing my mum, my work shifted toward something quieter and more meaningful:
art that holds personal stories.
Each painting begins with a word, a feeling, or a memory you want to honour.
From there, I design slowly — researching, sketching, and hand-painting on wood with archival materials and gold leaf.
I take on a small number of commissions each season so every story can unfold with intention and care.
My work is made to endure — personal, symbolic, and created to be passed down.
This isn’t décor. It’s a memory made visible.
From My Heart to Yours
When Everything Changed
In 2024, my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Before she passed, she made me promise one thing:
“Chase your dream of creating art that matters.”
That promise changed everything.
By 2025, I stepped away from teaching to honour her — creating story-led legacy art for families who want to preserve what they love most.
Crafted by hand. Guided by story.
I believe art should slow you down — and lift you up.
Symbols carry the stories of who we love, what we’ve lived, and what we want to remember.
Every piece begins with natural wood — a material already rooted in time, history, and quiet strength.
From there, I design slowly: researching, sketching, and hand-painting with archival paints and gold leaf.
There are no templates. No mass production.
Each commission is one-of-a-kind, created with intention, time, and care.
This is slow art for a fast world.
What I Stand For
The Sign
In 2022, during a visit to the UK, I met a signwriter named Colin Seal in Norfolk.
Colin Seal, the Norfolk signwriter who changed everything.
We spoke about craft, patience, and the beauty of slow work.
Before I left, he handed me his maulstick — the tool signwriters use to steady their hands — and said:
“Follow your dream. Go where you shine.”
I still use his maulstick today.
It’s a bridge between past and purpose — a reminder of where my hands first learned to trust themselves.
October 2023 — A verse from my wedding song, painted with Colin's mahlstick.
From My Heart to Yours
Art is my way of honouring the people and memories that shape us.
Every piece I create is made to last — rooted in story, crafted with care, and built to be cherished for generations. lasts.
From my heart to yours — Lisa
